Roc Solid Development is Contractor of the Month

Contractor of the Month “Hutch” Hutcheson of Roc Solid Development (center) receives congratulations from Roger Rambo of Rambo & Son Landscaping, Vice President of the Fountain Hills Association of Licensed Contractors.

Richard “Hutch” Hutcheson of Roc Solid Development is December’s Contractor of the Month. Hutch describes his company as “A rock-solid construction company.”

Most Fountain Hills residents have seen Hutch’s work at the Pal’s Inn Pet Resort at 11669 N. Saguaro Blvd. “I took that project over from another builder when it became apparent it wasn’t going well,” he said; “We basically built the entire building.”

Roc Solid Development builds custom houses and remodels, too. “We recently remodeled three bathrooms for Victoria and Craig Allwood in Fountain Hills. We took out a window and replaced it with glass block, re-tiled the floors, showers and foyer, and added frameless glass shower doors. We are really proud of that project,” Hutch said.

Hutch likes to build things, or as he says, “I like to take something and make it into something people thought couldn’t be done.” As an example he points to a recent project in Scottsdale: “We took off the entire back of the house, expanded it ten feet, put in new structural beams and rebuilt the back wall. You’d never know it was an add-on. People always say, ‘I didn’t know you could do that!’”

Hutch has lived in Fountain Hills for 18 years, as well as headquartering his business here. He grew up in Covington, Pennsylvania, and after a 6-year stint in the National Guard, has spent his entire 30-years career in the construction trades.

Hutch has five children. The oldest, Marc, lives in Fountain Hills and works in telecommunications. He has six granddaughters, one grandson and another grandson “on the way.”

When he’s not building houses, Hutch likes to go four-wheeling in Box Canyon, near Florence. He also enjoys riding his Harley-Davidson Softail Classic with a group from Fountain Hills.

The Contractor of the Month is named by the Fountain Hills Association of Licensed Contractors, reminding residents that “Licensed contractors build confidence in Fountain Hills.”

The Fountain Hills Association of Licensed Contractors is a not-for-profit trade association promoting better contracting practices.
